Electricity Profuse Plasma TV banned in California
California banned the sale of plasma TV to reduce electrical energy consumption. But the ban was opposed to the arbitrary will lead to even greater costs.
The ban would cause losses of U.S. $ 50 million per year from sales tax because consumers will buy the TV online or in other areas.
“At the moment the state of California is facing the worst crisis in the history of money, this would be a disaster,” said Jennifer Bemisderfer, a spokesman for the Consumer Electronics Association, which lobbied against the ban.
California Energy Commission prohibits the size plasma TV 58 inches or smaller and is the first state in the U.S. who do that. The ban comes after two years of debate about the cost of electricity and will take effect in 2011.
Commission Chairman Karen Douglas said the new rules would save U.S. $ 8.1 billion electrical energy.
“The winner is the energy efficiency of this TV is the consumers of California, which would save billions of dollars and energy conservation while preserving their option to purchase any size or type of TV,” said Douglas.
“California buy four million television every year and they deserve the most energy efficient models available.”
Consumer Electronics Association based in Virginia that represents 2000 manufacturers, retailers and suppliers, estimated losses of U.S. $ 50 million. The association also warned that restrictions could eliminate 4000 jobs in California.
California consumes a quarter of the plasma TV market, said Bemisderfer
