Chrome Cr-48, black MacBook: Separated at birth?
The all-black Cr-48 that Google is transport to the prototypal members of its Chrome OS notebook airman send looked frightfully old to us when it showed up at our office.
Software aside, after swing it lateral by lateral with a black MacBook that Apple shipped in 2007 we had in house, it dawned on us why: the digit are practically twins. Not identical, but at small fraternal. The coverall countenance is shockingly kindred to Apple’s now-extinct machine: from the colouration to the chiclet keyboard to the hinge, size, trackpad, modify to the incurvation in the locate where you displace the lid. Well, wager for yourself. We took whatever photos of the digit machines incoming to apiece another for you to peruse.
Now, if you go deeper than a prototypal spring and fortuity discover a ruler, you’ll wager that there are whatever differences between the digit externally. While the hinges countenance practically the aforementioned size, they aren’t: 6.5 inches on the MacBook to 6 inches on the Cr-48. And the concealment sizes depart slightly: The Chromebook’s measures 4.5 inches by 7.5 inches, and the MacBook’s 5.25 inches by 8.5 inches.
The trackpads, however, are coequal in size–though not in function: in 2007, Apple had not still introduced its clickable touchpad-as-button, which the Chrome notebook utilizes.
Of instruction there are whatever pretty bounteous useful differences too: Google has nixed the round drive, Ethernet port, and every but digit USB port, but does allow an SD bill slot. The 3-year old
Mac notebook also has those pesky caps hair and duty keys that Google has eliminated.
But what’s exclusive these digit machines is apparently where the key disagreement lays: Apple has the fully-featured Mac OS X screen operative grouping powering its notebook, patch Google’s effort element is enwrapped around its sort newborn Web browser-based operative system, Chrome OS.
